When I was dancing DUET, I realized that there were at least four versions of the dance that the audience was not seeing: views from the top, back, right and left sides. I made this video version to show these other views and an inkling of what it felt like to be inside the dancing.
After I made the live and video versions, I read somewhere that "video is not a good medium for showing dance." I knew this was true if a stationery camera was set up audience-distance in front of a dance. But I also knew that video could do so much more. I set about showing some of that "much more" in Bale Light Stories, my MFA thesis, and in Stand By Your Man.
