Falling Downstairs
Falling Downstairs was inspired by the large outdoor metal stairway at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston.
Notes on Descending the Staircase
Bride….awkward…graceful...stable….unsure….elegant….tentative….tumble….recapitulation….catapult…knocked unconscious…returning from a dream…reminiscent…
Imagine
See the image of the woman-in-white on the stairs
Embody the image…..let go the tension and breath……see the surroundings…let go the tension and breathe, .allow the body to change…follow the changing….breathe….see the surroundings…
Images
Visual, as in seeing falling head over heels
Verbal, as in "catapult"
Repeat from See the Image/Embody the Image
Descend
Step down…"goal" is to descend and ascend, so just do it: just take the step
Appetite
Appetite/Desire determines the progress. Take the step up or down in the most pleasurable and, perhaps, interesting way possible.
Follow the desire/pleasure/appetite while seeing the surroundings and breathing
Do this descending/ascending appetite until another Image arises
Sound
Sam Haar's mix of Beethoven's 7th, or Going Downstairs (from the soundtrack of Young Victoria, re-mixed)
